A bit of music in the arts news. Spike Jonze (featured in Jux n100, May 2009), worked with Grammy-nominated Arcade Fire (yes, Grammy-nominated) on a short film for the Montreal band's 2010 release, The Suburbs. If you grew up in the suburbs, this album may have resonated with you. It resonated with Spike, and he made a short film about that resonation. Details after the jump . . .

Over the past 6 years, there hasn't been a "band" that has grabbed the international mega-band-but-still-artistic label quite like Arcade Fire, and there hasn't really been a filmmaker that has grabbed the indie-but-not-really-but-can-still-show-my-roots label quite like Spike Jonze. Spike was in our 100th issue last year, and we always like to see what he has going on, and in this case, its a video for the title track of the Arcade Fire's The Suburbs album. Two of our favorite people, author (and now illustrator) Dave Eggers and filmmaker Spike Jonze (Juxtapoz #100), will grace LA’s Family bookstore tomorrow evening with a double book-signing and Q&A, along with a performance by Aska, the band who composed all music for Jonze’s short film I’m Here. If you know what's good for you, be there.

A spokesperson for Spike Jonze confirms that the visionary director “will be in Austin shooting a short film which is a collaboration with Arcade Fire.” The short involves teenage friends growing apart.
