This past weekend we stopped by New Image Art for the opening reception of their latest group exhibition, California Photography Now. The show featured the works of Jerry Hsu, Todd Jordan, Kevin “Spanky” Long, Jen “JR” Reynolds, Curits Buchanan, Tino Razo, Neck Face, Sagan Lockhart, Gregory Bojorquez, Sandy Kim , Teen Witch and Retna.

This past weekend we stopped by the opening reception for Mercedes Helnwein’s latest solo exhibition, Make It Dark, at Merry Karnowsky Gallery in Los Angeles. With this evocative collection of works Helnwein presents us with a bizarre Film Noir inspired world of midnight creeping, invisible pain and loss of love. Photos and more after the jump….

Last week, we attended the opening of Jim Drain's Drain Expressions exhibition at Prism Gallery in Los Angeles. The show "proposes a level of visual fecundity that has long been present in the artist's work - elaborate woven compositions, deconstructed paintings, immersive wall patterns, wall-mounted sculptures and gently satirical promotional posters are drawn together in the artist's first major exhibition in Los Angeles in 8 years."

This past weekend, we made it out to Blum & Poe for a special exhibition by Kishio Suga, one of the leading figures of Mono-ha (School of Things), a group of artists who radically redefined Japanese art during the late 1960s and early 1970s. This is Suga's first solo exhibition with the gallery and his first solo presentation in North America.

This past weekend Clare Rojas’ latest exhibition opened up at Prism gallery in Los Angeles. Entitled Pith, this body of paintings signals a further exploration for Rojas, in respect to both subject and materiality.
