Opening: Marcos LaFarga @ Zerofriends, Oakland

Juxtapoz // Thursday, October 04, 2012
I didn't take very many art classes in community college. In fact, I think I only took one, unless I blocked them out of my memory. And one of our first assignments in that class, before even doing the usual "value scales" or blind contour drawings, was to fully recreate a traditional Renaissance painting with the additional task of "adding a self portrait" into it...

Pardee's Pick: The Art of Jeff McMillan

Juxtapoz // Thursday, October 04, 2012
One of the best things about collaborating and becoming friends with other artists that I love is what kind of jewels I can wrench out of them by trading art for art.

Pardee's Pick: Halloween Issue Portrait Outtakes by Chloe Rice

Juxtapoz // Wednesday, October 03, 2012
One of the best parts of working on the Halloween issue was editing it. Evan, myself and Trent, the art director, spent weeks tightening up the layout, moving articles around, coming up with a color scheme, deleting all of the "umms", "likes" and awkward pauses from everyones interviews...

Pardee's Pick: The Art of Gris Grimly

Juxtapoz // Tuesday, October 02, 2012
Among all of the random filing cabinets labeled anywhere from "reference pics of ewoks" to my "Amazon wish list" that are cluttered inside of my brain, there's a specific cabinet labeled "Artists Who I Will Always Look Up To For The Rest of My Life No Matter What". Inside that cabinet is a small list of names, and Gris Grimly is at the top.

Pardee's Pick: The Art of Shawn Pacheco

Juxtapoz // Sunday, September 30, 2012
Whenever I rant to people who haven't seen his art, the way I always describe the work of Bay Area illustrator Shawn G. Pacheco (SGP) tends to go something like this: "Imagine if a real cartoon character, like Bugs Bunny, Stimpy, or Finn were inspired by OTHER cartoons and spent their free time drawing fucked up NEW cartoons."

Pardee's Picks: The Art of Hill Hudson

Juxtapoz // Saturday, September 29, 2012
I was up in Portland a few months ago eating donuts and playing dress up at Upper Playground when I crossed paths with an artist named Hill Hudson who, after talking for a few minutes, handed me a sticker that was cooler than any sticker I had seen since the Zorlac and Santa Cruz skateboard days. When I say cool, however, I mean cool as in "disgusting."

Pardee's Picks: Top 40 Garbage Pail Kid Cards

Top List // Friday, September 28, 2012
As far as I'm concerned, the near-decade long reign of TOPPS' Garbage Pail Kids stickers back in the mid 1980's were the very first "meme". And on top of that, the original 600+ Garbage Pail Kids laid the ground work for a formula that I have repeatedly used throughout my career, and probably won't stop doing so, because the formula is ridiculously fun.

Pardee's Picks: The Art of Clay Enos

Juxtapoz // Thursday, September 27, 2012
hotographer (and super human) Clay Enos is featured in this month's special Halloween issue, but even if we devoted the entire magazine to his art, photographs and stories, it wouldn't be enough.

Pardee's Picks: The Art of Matthew Bone (NSFW)

Juxtapoz // Wednesday, September 26, 2012
With his new work Matthew Bone continues to explore the visual language he created as a child when massive unmonitored media consumption informed his worldview...
