Phil Frost "The Solace of the Sword" @ Ace Gallery, LA

Juxtapoz // Tuesday, July 09, 2013
One of our all-time favorite cover artists, and let's face it, simply one of our favorite artists, NY-based Phil Frost, is about to open a new solo show, The Solace of the Sword, at Ace Gallery in Los Angeles on July 20th. Actually, we can't quite tell if it is open yet, because there are a ton of installation shots roaming around the web, but make sure to stop by from now until... September 2013 to see some of Frost's spectacular works.

Samuel Bayer's billboard altered by Phil Frost stolen

Street Art // Tuesday, March 12, 2013
A billboard in Los Angeles that was “defaced” by the always-awesome art of Phil Frost was stolen last night and were we surprised? Not really. The fact that Frost is still out there putting in work on the streets is more amazing in our minds. The billboard promoting Samuel Bayer’s exhibition at Ace Gallery was not taken down when Frost painted it, most likely because they have good taste and respect for the artist. Samuel Bayer and Swing Media, the owners of the billboard, are offering a reward for the return of the work. If the thieves who stole it plant to keep it, better have a massive warehouse to properly display it.

Opening: Laurie Lipton @ Ace Gallery, Los Angeles

Juxtapoz // Monday, July 16, 2012
This weekend we stopped by the opening of Laurie Lipton's LA Sous-Real, her new exhibition at Los Angeles' Ace Gallery. The exhibition featured a huge selection of Lipton's works from the past half-decade, an impressively rendered set of large-scale graphite and pencial works on paper.

Laurie Lipton thinks in images and renders her psychically rich inner world visible via detailed pencil on paper drawings. Lipton's new solo show 'L.A. Sous-Real' opens this Saturday, July 14th at Ace Gallery in Los Angeles. "I fear death and oblivion the most, which is why I try to capture on paper, the fleeting horror and wonder of being alive," Lipton states.
