According to his bio, Randy is a self-taught artist and he illustrates and designs his art by attaching his mouth to a goatfish, secreting an anticoagulant into the host, and drawing with the blood and melted tissue that spills from the gelatinous orifice...

'Except My Love': Jay Howell at Slow Culture

Our November 2013 issue is on newsstands now, featuring a cover story on publisher of hardboiled crime, pulp noir novels, Hard Case Crime. HCC has brought back the classic crime detective series, and in doing so, have hired illustrators to recreate the vintage look of the great pulp genre. The results are both refreshing and a perfect ode to one of the great eras of commercial illustrations. Today, we look at the works of Michael Koelsch, who not only did the cover of the upcoming title Borderline for Hard Case Crime, but whose work is the cover of the new Juxtapoz.

Madelen Foss is a Norwegian illustrator born and raised in Oslo. She recently graduated from Kingston University where she studied illustration and animation. She enjoys working with oil pastels, watercolors, ink and posca markers and is always experimenting with other types of materials. Foss claims that "Colors are important to me, they give me energy!"

Antonio Segura Donat Illustrates Brussels

Antonio Segura Donat and his brother were selected with nine cartoon artists to devise a graphic story on contemporary Brussels.They were selected as winners of the Int'l Brussels in Shorts competition. The stories all refer to one common location, but differ both graphically and in tehre content while all offering an interesting slant on contemporary Brussels. These beautiful, fanciful illustrations reveal the fantastical underbelly of a major city.  

Mulga the Artist

Mulga is Joel Moore, a Sydney based artist, freelance illustrator and poet who paints murals, designs t-shirts and runs the Mulga clothing label. He loves to paint bearded folk. He draws beards, animals, zombies  and wacky characters and has a unique style combining  crazy colours overlaid by intricate line work. ‘I draw beards because I am intrigued by the unique mystical power beards possess. I am here to spread the magical wonder of beards and ensure every man and woman has the opportunity to grow a bushy beard at least once in their lives.’

An illustrator, fine artist, graphic designer and art director, Zach primarily works in pen & ink, watercolor, and mixed media to create his world of ghouls, monsters, and misfits! Zach is also co-founder of the clothing and apparel company Tank Theory.
