Phil Huntington aka Dogboy

Illustration // Monday, December 09, 2013
In Phil Huntington aka Dogboy’s large screen prints, we are invited into his bizarre worlds in glorious technicolour. The colours used are bright with an acidity and intensity that pulls you in from the slightest glimpse. Once inside, there are masses to explore with his wonderfully creepy characters, their buildings and vehicles, as well as all the curious activities going on.

He translates this look into this digital work "to a point that they've become almost interchangeable." He recently adopted the term "digicut" to describe this particular genre, a crossing of hand-made and computer-generated. Mercado is a member of Illustrators Ireland and The Association of Illustrators.

SCARECROWOVEN is a favorite of ours, especially when we're looking for a fresh dose of guts and gore. His latest work is largely skateboard and longboard-centric, perfect vehicles for his gnarly street-wise graphics. These wrinkled, zombified sharks, wolves, warriors, dragons and warriors seem straight out of grindhouse horror films and 80's punk posters. SCARECROWOVEN comes out of the graphic design program at New York's School of the Visual Arts.
