Juxtapoz @ Fame Festival: Day #1

After a long drive in the wee hours of the morning, Juxtapoz arrived in the beautiful hill town of Grottaglie in Southern Italy to attend the opening of FAME Festival. With just a few hours to run around the town before sleep called, we saw work by Escif, Blu, Vhils, Lucy McLauchlan, Nespoon, Os Gemeos, Sam 3, Swoon, and others.

Last weekend, Juxtapoz celebrated the annual San Francisco Outside Lands Festival and curated the art portion of the event. Mike Shine, Monica Canilao, Skinner, Jeremy Fish, Tifffany Bozic, Mike Giant, and others all created work for the event, with Shine and Canilao building full, immersive installations and performance pieces. We just caught up with Tiffany in Golden Gate Park before her flags get put into some of the surrounding trees. Great work.

We spent the entire day yesterday at Outside Lands, watching all the artists come in and prepare their installations for the weekend music festival in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park. We had one reporter embedded all day with Monica Canilao and her team as they began transforming the woods into a full interactive installation.

Color Restoration of 1902 film "A Trip To the Moon" to open Cannes Film Festival 2011

Tonight (May 11), the 2011 Cannes Film Festival will one-up a red carpet Tom Cruise experience and open the festivities with a screening of a color-restored version of the groundbreaking 1902 Georges Méliès’ film, A Trip to the Moon. The film is widely considered to be the first science-fiction film.

Preview: James Jean "Rebus" at Martha Otero Gallery, Los Angeles

Juxtapoz.com is currently in Los Angeles, and yesterday, we spent the day with James Jean, half of the time spent at Martha Otero Gallery as Jean and the Otero staff were putting the finishing touches on Rebus, Jean's new solo exhibition opening Saturday, March 12. And then the day ended on a roof with a hand-flute version of "Yellow." More after the jump . . .
