Olek's creates new piece while awaiting sentencing

October 03, 2012

Polish-born New York-based crochet artist, Olek, recently completed this multi-paneled piece using the words “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere” a quote once written in a famous letter by the prominent leader of the African-American Civil Rights Movement, Martin Luther King.  She made this particular piece in response to her legal troubles in London, where an unfortunate encounter with a drunken man had landed her in jail. According to Olek, the man verbally and physically assaulted her, forcing her to retaliate in defense. The artist believes she was also a victim of discrimination by the arresting officers Her case has been dragging on for over a year and has now been postponed until November 19th. Olek has written of the event and you can read more about her situation on her website.
