"Miracle Tree" monument in Japan

Street Art // Wednesday, 13 Mar 2013

A lone palm tree that survived the 2001 tsunami in Japan has been rebuilt as a monument to honor the 19,000 victims of the disaster. The only survivor of the 70,000 trees that were taken out from the water held on for a while, but eventually died due to environmental changes in the ground. The tree was cut up, the trunk hallowed out reinforced with a carbon spine, and partly re-created as a permanent monument.
