Arriving in Los Angeles in 1968, Kent Twitchell’s impact on the mural movement was considerable. Many of his realism murals can still be seen around Los Angeles, although many fell victim to graffiti and weather deterioration over the last 15 years. Chances are you have seen some of these murals but never realized who was responsible. In 2008, Twitchell settled a lawsuit against 12 defendants and the U.S. Government for painting over a 70 –foot-tall landmark mural he had painted of Edward Ruscha. The settlement was a hefty $1.1 million.
