January 14, 2014

Commissioned by the Maboneng precinct as a gift to the city in the memory of Nelson Mandela, South African artist, Freddy Sam, painted a 10-story portrait based on Bob Gosani’s iconic image of the nations prolific revolutionary figure. The massive piece took just four days to paint and was inspired by Mandela’s definition of “Ubuntu,” which translates to “You cannot be human all by yourself.”
