Banksy's art gets PrivatizedStreet Art // Tuesday, 04 Jun 2013
$1.1 million US dollars is how much a removed Banksy artwork sold at a private auction held by a London-based company named Sincura Group over the weekend. The group that specializes in hard to find aka unobtainable items for clients sold the piece to an unnamed buyer. The artwork was originally stenciled on the side of a thrift store in London where it received considerable attention from locals and street art fans before it was mysteriously removed. The piece first went up for sale at an auction in Miami, but was withdrawn from the auction after pressure from an organized international campaign. Titled “Slave Labour,” the work depicts a stenciled boy hunched over a sewing machine making colored United Kingdom flags. Will it hide in a private home forever never to be seen again?
