12 MONTHS OF NEON LOVEStreet Art // Tuesday, 11 Dec 2012
For twelve months beginning on Valentines Day 2011, Victoria Lucas and Richard William Wheater created twelve lyrical statements in large red neon text on the roof of the Neon Workshop in Wakefield, West Yorkshire. All of the lyrics came from well-known musical groups such as Jo Division and Amy Winehouse. The project was initially inspired from the romantic relationship between the two artists and set to explore the subject of love, expressions of intimacy, adoration and heartbreak.
“I think the fact that we have experienced the full spectrum of feelings associated with love during the projects short life span is so important, and for me has become the main concept driving the work. The work was conceived out of our love, which now only exists in our memories. The transitory nature of the project and its temporal existence echoes this; a year long artwork representing a year long love affair.” – Lucas
