This past Fall, as we have documented in full, we saw 6 artists off to Detroit to work with Powerhouse Productions as part of our 15th Anniversary Benefit and Auction project. Swoon, Ben Wolf, Monica Canilao, RETNA, Richard Colman, and Saelee Oh all created unique pieces of art in the neighborhood where the money we raised was able to buy property. We wrote last month about RETNA painting at the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas, and now the hotel has brought in legendary NYC artist, filmmaker, and hip-hop pioneer Fab Five Freddy to be the first artist-in-residence at the hotel's P3 Studio. Fab's new body of work is a series of photographs of celebrated boxers and anonymous show girls are enlarged, digitally altered and printed on canvas, then adorned with Swarovski crystals, artfully placed to make the works pop. Cover artist and participating Detroit artist RETNA has a new video on LA Forward that shows him giving a tour of his mural in downtown LA that he painted with Mac based on a photograph by Estevan Oriol. What was supposed to be informative turns a tad confrontational as a man near the mural starting shouting at the film crew and Retna. Watch after the jump . . .
