We turn 18 this year. Old enough to join the army, vote, serve on a jury, go to the prom, and, we even think we can adopt a child now. To celebrate, Copro Gallery in Santa Monica will be hosting the exhibition, Juxtapoz Turns 18, featuring works from a group of artists who have been featured in our pages over the past 18 years, including Retna, Todd Schorr, Shepard Fairey, Mark Ryden, Jeremy Fish, Marion Peck, Andrew Schoultz, Camille Rose Garcia, CR Stecyk III, and many others. Yesterday, graffiti stalwarts from NYC and Los Angeles, Cope2 and Retna, collaborated on a colorful wall in the Bronx. As we wrote the other day, Retna was working on the famed Bowery and Houston wall in Manhattan, but found time to make it up north to the Bronx to work with Cope. Good results as always. Read More

Our good friend Richard Duardo of Modern Multiples in Los Angeles will be curating LA St. Seen, a group exhibition at Red Arrow Contemporary in Dallas, Texas. The exhibition, that opens Saturday, February 18, will feature work from Shepard Fairey, Banksy, Retna, Mear One, Saber, Richard Duardo, Mark Dean Veca, Gajin Fujita, and another good friend, Gomez Bueno, will be exhibiting his famed Bueno Boxes. We stopped by the opening reception for Excavated Revelations, a two-person show featuring the artwork of ZES and RETNA. Introduced in their youth by their mutual friend AYER, ZES and RETNA led parallel lives through an upbringing in graffiti. Utilizing a fluidity and precision they mastered by painting some of the most coveted walls in the city, their refined technique is now exemplified in this fresh body of abstract work. An ambitious project involving numerous international contemporary artists and disused Military airplanes is set to make it’s debut on January 28th at the Pima Art and Space Museum in Tucson, Arizona. The Boneyard Project: Return Trip will include artists Andrew Schoultz, How & Nosm, Nunca, Retna, and Faile who will all paint their own individual airplanes, along with cockpit from Saner.
