Peter Granser’s ‘Sun City’ is an upbeat look at the latter part of our lives. Often growing old is looked at as a negative concept where one might spend most of their time sitting around too tired to do anything and dreaming of grandchildren. Granser breaks this stereotype in his book, which documents a retirement colony in the American Southwest. These photographs show lively and eccentric characters partaking in activities like shooting and swimming. He also photographs the landscapes of well-kept flamingo-laden lawns and prim hedges. The book is a celebration of aging and shows these whimsical elderly people enjoying their nostalgic tastes together. Granser has done several projects about growing old including a more melancholy book about Alzheimer’s disease.
