As a reaction to her maternal grandmother’s passing, Los Angeles based documentary photographer Isadora Kosofsky began photographing the elderly and soon met Adina, Jeanie, and Will who were part of a love triangle where Jeanie and Adina romantically share Will. Every morning, Kosofsky would meet the three before they would set out to find a new daily adventure. While spending time with them, Kosofsky was able to photographically capture the comfort that each member of the trio longed for and fulfilled by being involved with each other. Moments of tenderness, tension, and even loneliness are depicted through her images which invite the viewer to reflect on their own notion of a relationship. “The Three” shows that sometimes at the end of life, the need for companionship can far outweigh the need for monogamy.
