Since 2011 the photography cooperative Magnum Photos has been performing an experiment in collaborative art making. Every year they send a group of photographers, each with very different visions, to an area of the United States. The result is a highly nuanced portrait of a region with each artist’s work in conversation with each other, as Magnum describes it like a band with each sound distinct but working together to form a cohesive resonance. They have done projects in the Southwest, Rochester, and most recently Wisconsin. This trip features work from Bruce Gilden, Jim Goldberg, Susan Meiselas, Martin Parr, Paolo Pellegrin, Mark Power, Alessandra Sanguinetti, Jacob Aue Sobol, Alec Soth, Zoe Strauss, and Donovan Wylie. The show is currently at the Milwaukee Art Museum.
