Self-confessed 60’s obsessive, Matt Henry explores American culture through staged imagery. His sets are constructed in England where he lives, using props sourced from both the UK and the United States. Titled ‘Short Stories,’ Henry is interested in evolving a new genre of ‘narrative photography’ that stands away from associations with fashion editorial.
Following on from the highly acclaimed work of individuals such as Gregory Crewdson, Matt Henry develops a highly stylised perspective with a perfected aura of ‘Hollywood.’ In a somewhat darkened depiction of rural America, each narrative is given a beginning and an end. Placed adjacent to each other like actions on a storyboard, they ask their viewer to revel in finding the missing and essential links.
