Fragments is a collection of abstract, black and white constructions by New York artist Patricia Voulgaris’. Her process is a visual metaphor for the way we distort and recollect memories. Compositionally speaking, the photographs are all quite different from the next, but each image contains a focal point which punctures the otherwise disorientating image. These points of focus, often skin or hair, are organic interruptions to the compressed and graphic aesthetic and conclude the poetic nature of the series.
Patricia Voulgaris is a 2013 graduate of the BFA Photo program at the School of Visual Arts, and plans to further explore the relationship between photography and sculpture.
