In Henry Hargreaves’s body of work “No Seconds,” he photographs the final meals requested by death row inmates which are paired with text describing the requested meal, the name of the criminal, and the crime he/she committed. Photographed in the style of a visual survey, each image appeals to a person’s desire to understand the inner workings of their criminal minds . “Researching this topic strangely personalized these people for me and for a moment was able to identify with them through the common denominator of food”, said Hargreaves. This dark twist of relating to the portrayed individuals adds a layer of complexity to these otherwise beautiful images.
