Dan Bannino is an Italian photographer known for his juicy sharpness, product shots, and still lives, with recognition from the likes of The Huffington Post, Artnet, Designboom, Glamour, Refinery29, and The Gloss, among many others. His latest series holds true to his signature slickness and eccentric (even repulsive, at times) subject matter.

Still Diet is Bannino’s approach to celebrity culture and our fascination with the mundane. The series employs the style of 15th century still lives, each photograph unfolding a scene from a different celebrity’s diet (which, oddly enough, seems to be fairly common knowledge). “With this series my aim was to capture the beauty that lies in this terrible constriction of diets and deprivation, giving them the importance of an old master’s painting,” Bannino explains.

The “still diets” depict the meal plans of major public figures from Beyoncé Knowles to Kate Moss, Mariah Carey to Bill Clinton--even Simon Cowell is included. Each richly saturated photo is chalked full of meticulous detail, highlighting the absurdity and wackiness of so many of these diets—Beyoncé’s Master cleanse even features light pink toilet paper.

“I wanted to make them significant, like classic works of arts that are becoming more and more weighty as they grow older,” Bannino concludes, “My aim was to show how this weirdness hasn’t changed even since the 15th century.”
