This weekend, on June 22, Deedee Cheriel will be opening new works alongside Mel Kadel and Femke Hiemstra at Merry Karnowsky Gallery in Los Angeles. We were lucky this morning to get a preview and collection of new works from Cheriel, who in her artist statement notes, "With nuances of East Indian art, Cheriel's use of bold elements – both urban and natural, as well as pop culture – are indications of how we try to connect ourselves to others and how these heroic efforts are episodes of compassion and discomfort. Bold elements drawn from landscapes -both urban and natural as well as pop culture suggest an ability to find commonalities and relationships between our selves and our surroundings that inevitably confirm our common humanity and our ultimate quest for love. These are stories of loss, hope and inspiration, profound reminders of the very things that inevitably confirm our common humanity and our ultimate quest for connection."
