We Matter at pt.2: Oakland is about the ways grace and joy matter and manifest in the lives of black men as seen through the lens of Adrian Octavius Walker's gentle photography. Rather than the “intimidating” stereotype, Walker challenges perceptions, portraying strength in community and kinship. Inspired by explorations of the Black body, dynamics of the Black family and archival works on the African American experience, Walker uses both film and digital photography to share untold stories in his intimate portraits of human interaction in urban America.

We Matter opens at pt. 2: Oakland on March 14, 2020, with an opening reception from 12 to 10 pm, and is on view through April 3, 2020.
