Jet Martinez has spent the last few years creating colorful and bold murals and paintings, work that stands out on the street especially with the rarity of viewing floral textures in public space. His paintings followed suit, with color arrangements and details that made for intoxicating results. The Mexico-born, Bay Area-based painter though, has stipped back some of those color palettes in his new exhibition, Des-Colores, on view at First Amendment Gallery in San Francisco from October 5—26th, 2019.

For Des-Colores (an opposing take on the Mexican folk song, “De Colores”), Martinez takes a step back from those multi-colored works and created a darker world, one with muted-palettes and greys and blacks. Each monochromatic work still has that signature detail, but with a deeper sense of loss and melancholy that captures the mood of the world around us.

Jet Martinez's Des-Colores will have an opening reception at First Amendment Gallery in San Francisco on October 5th from 7—10pm.
