"Before I started this series called Trapped. one of the returning subjects that always inspires me is contradiction," Super A says on the precipice of his new solo show at Thinkspace Projects. "Two opposites that create an interesting tension. I wanted to show two worlds in one piece. I came up with some ideas to get it done but all too complex."

And what a time to show that tension and contradiction. Not only are we experiencing one of the most tumultuous times in decades (plus California is back in lockdown), Thinkspace is also in a bit of a celebratory mode. Their new schedule of shows is also the grand opening of their new space at 4217 W. Jefferson Blvd in Los Angeles, a move that was a long-time coming for the gallery.

The Dutch artist Super A, aka Stefan Thelen, kicks it off with Apostasy, a surreal blend of pop-culture iconography and hyperrealistic portraits. As the gallery notes, "Super A is often dealing in visual metaphor and social messaging, questioning the ideologies and cultural myths we’ve become too complacent at accepting without critique. Interested in the interrogation of objectivity and its ultimate exposure as a construct, Super A combines elements of realism with the free reign of fiction to produce unexpected results."

Opening Reception with the Artist(s): Saturday, December 12, 2020 12:00-6:00pm *scheduled visitation only. Schedule your visit via the Thinkspace website. Masks & social distancing required at all times
