First Amendment is set to host 6th & Howard, a site-specific solo exhibition by San Francisco artist Chad Hasegawa.
It's always fun to stomp on the old grounds, and in this case, local Hasegawa shares his memories and musings on a neighborhood and its culture. 6th & Howard creates a visual missive with the area, recalling postcards sent to an old friend, each sealed by Hasegawa's exuberantly colorful punches. Dictated figuratively and literally by the streets that nurtured Hasegawa's art aspirations, 6th & Howard displays the artist's latest paintings as well as an installation reflecting Hasegawa's vast, expansive cultural visions of the city he continues to call home.
With roots in San Francisco graffiti culture, Chad Hasegawa has steadily etched a name for himself within contemporary abstract expressionist movements, wielding a style that is gestural, powerful, and engaging. Although Hasegawa originally earned a BFA in Advertising, his eloquent and great-hearted approach to creating has sparked opportunities like his 2013 residency at the Artist in Residence Program at San Francisco's Recology Center and a number of community-centered mural projects across the country.
