Every winter in San Francisco, the city's clubs are taken over by the great Noise Pop Festival, featuring an assortment of music acts, art activities, and cultural events. This year, Real Estate, No Age, Dr Dog, Fresh & Onlys, Mikal Cronin, Vetiver, Shabazz Palaces, Sun Kil Moon, and DJ Rashad are just a few of the musical acts. On Saturday, March 1, Juxtapoz and Noise Pop will hold the SF premier of "Grey City," a documentary on São Paulo, Brazil's influential graffiti history and controversial laws.
On the streets of São Paulo, Brazil a new form of graffiti art was born. Like wildfire, the exceptional works of artists like Os Gêmeos, Nunca, Nina Ise, Fink and Zefix spread through the streets of the city, and then unsurprisingly to art galleries and museums around the world. But when a new law against "visual pollution" threatens to cover up and destroy their huge breathtaking works on city walls, the artists unleash a graffiti art war against the local government, giving birth to one of the most creative resistance movements in Latin American art. Music by Criolo and Daniel Ganjaman.
