It's no doubt that the Rockaways in New York faced some extreme damage during Hurricane Sandy, and right beside the site where the boardwalk once stood, MoMA PS1 has constructed and rebuilt a large geodesic dome as a space to percolate thought, host events, and create an exciting exchange of various kinds. We are eager to see what results. It will be officially opening this Friday, March 29, 2013.
Here's some details from the MoMA:
"As part of EXPO 1: New York and in partnership with Volkswagen, MoMA PS1 has installed a temporary geodesic dome in the Rockaways to serve as a center for culture, education, and community. During this period of rebuilding, the dome provides a venue for lectures and conversations, rotating art exhibitions, film and video screenings, performances, and community events. Programming will be undertaken in partnership with local organizations in the Rockaways and Queens County. The VW Dome 2 is located at the southern end of the parking lot located between Beach 94th and Beach 95th Streets, close to the former boardwalk."
