Where the Wild Things Are celebrates its 50 year anniversary at the Walt Disney Family Museum for a six week party, so hurry out to the Presidio to re-live the memories and mayhem. Maurice Sendak’s classic is one of those stories that is not bound by time, place, age or even nostalgia. The bright blue bay and skies outside the museum are forgotten as soon as you enter the world of Max and his monsters, vividly recalling a story and experience I can safely say imprinted all of us. The evocative illustrations resonate even more when reading about Sendak’s life, and are framed by personal reflections made by other artist, actors and authors. It’s a pleasure to lose sense of where and when wandering throughout the exhibit, which ends up in a playroom for all ages that invites touching and hands-on experience of an imaginary world that has touched us all.
This is special.
