When perusing our bookshelf the other evening, we revisited William Strunk Jr. and E.B. White's Elements of Style not so much for the writing advice, but more for Maira Kalman's illustrations. Her colors, stylistic renderings and fascinating quirkiness is always done just right. Whether it is a New Yorker cover, a children's book, or a cook book, Kalman's work always vibrates with energy, humor, and joy. Now, we have a sense of regret knowing we missed the Contemporary Jewish Museum's survey of her work back in 2010. Next time!
