This week, we're taking a break from Basel and all that fancy-highbrow-art-world-ness to enjoy the illustrations of Matt Carignan. Based in Oakland, Carignan has created a cast of misfit characters that seem to have been born out of a 90's acid trip and married with the warm fuzzies of nostalgic aesthetics.
With a unique, playful style, the artist stands out in a wave of new alternative comic artists. Carignan seems to have limitless talents when it comes to experimentation, he's dabbled in everything: zines, animation, prints, paintings, and tattoos, yet somehow his world is still expanding. Coming off the heels of a three-person show at YUI Gallery earlier this year, Carignan continues to impress. Be sure to keep an eye on Instagram for more!
