In conjunction with Marvelous Expeditions, the Dabs Myla curated exhibition at Thinkspace Gallery opening this September 1, we asked the former Juxtapoz featured artists (who will be with us at Outside Lands this weekend) to come up with questions for some of their friends who will be in the exhibition. Of course, we made them answere their questions first...
Here is the rundown on the show...
Thinkspace is pleased to present the highly anticipated Marvelous Expeditions by Dabs Myla and Friends. In the spirit of travel and all things wonderfully itinerant, acclaimed duo Dabs Myla will take over the gallery space and will feature new work and an installation alongside curated selections from 30 of their closest and most inspiring artist friends. The gallery will in effect become a locus of meeting and communal exchange, as artists from all over the world are brought together by Dabs Myla to share their experiences of traveling through its landscapes.
Marvelous Expeditions showcases the duo’s love of friends, collegiality, exchange, and the proliferation of vision and variety that thrives alongside constant movement and displacement. These are the exploratory impulses of travel that lead to constant revisions, reconstitutions, influences, and to the indelible encounters that change everything.

To NYC for the 123 KLAN 20th Anniversary where we painted a few walls and got to hang out and paint with a bunch of our friends!
Favorite country / city you've visited? Place you most want to visit?
Last year we spend three awesome days in Paris which we loved... That would be up there as a favorite! We are looking forward to visit Germany, Spain and Italy too!
Planes, Trains or Automobiles?
Automobiles when possible. We love a road trip when ever we can take one.
Window seat or isle? Chicken or Fish?
Anywhere - as long as we are sitting next to each other! Neither of us ever eat plane fish?...It just doesn't seem right?
What is your favorite road trip song / artist or album?
M: Bill Callahan - Sometimes I Wish I Were An Eagle
Pink Floyd - Meddle
Ween - Chocolate and Cheese
Weakerthans - Left and Leaving
What fuels you to keep creating?
Please describe your dream project if time and money were not issues.
We love to work on large scale installations for spaces, and have so many big ideas and plans. I think if money and time where not an issue, we would love to bring a lot of our master plans to life without having to compromise them in any way.
Do you have a favorite item from your studio that you always make sure you take on a trip? For example...reference book, lucky balaclava, favorite brush etc..
A good amount of alien stock caps and NY fats and our ipod, Headphones and a double adapting jack so we can both plug in together!
Least favorite part of making art? And your favorite part...
We don't really have a least favorite except from getting stressed at the amount of work we have to do, but then we remind each other how fortunate we are to be so busy. Our favorite part is working together everyday!
If you could collaborate with one artist, living or dead, who would it be?
We love to collaborate with lots of our friends, and feel really fortunate every time we do! There's something that you get from making art work with friends, and people that you respect that really adds a lot to the enjoyment of being an artist.
Ever picked up a hitch hiker? Have you ever been a hitch hiker?
Yes and yes for both of us!
Something you wish you would have known 5 years ago?
How incredible it is to live in California!
