My real name is Trevor Knapp, but I go either way with Kidknapper. I'll have a website up soon, but in the meantime:

Temporary Flash Website:

I guess my work as a whole resembles my life, and these paintings personify what I have seen or experienced. I tend to get deeply personal with my paintings and try to use them as a way to show my view of the world and certain time periods. But, I digress...

For your viewing pleasure, cheers.

Ever since I saw one of my friends paint / draw on news paper I always wanted to do one. You have some interesting ideas. I just think you have problems producing them the way you want to.

How do you go about producing these? Your process. Is it random, just sit down and start doing stuff? Do you sketch? Design it in your head beforehand?

I tend to go about it in a lot of ways. Sometimes I just sit down and paint for the enjoyment, but end up doing more abstract shape work. I have a pretty extensive sketchbook, I guess I could throw up some of that... but I generally try to come up with what I want ahead of time. It tends to be pretty basic in some cases, unless I get something I just can't get out of my head. Painting became very therapeutic for me, so I started out in that aspect. But yeah, I hear you on having issues. I'm pretty new to the painting community (about 3 years in), so hear me out haha. I'm self-taught, but who isn't these days...

To me depth is crucial. Even if it is just flat color, you can still create depth by the relation of warm and cool colors. Warm and cool does not mean Red and Blue. Red can be cool or warm, as can blue. It just depends on how you mix the color.

Having said that, the more busy a piece is, the greater the chances of it being muddy. But if you have the ability to separate it into planes you can pull it off. Foreground, middle-ground, and background...or most important to least important.

Because you use a lot of color and organic shapes, the temperature (warm and cool) of the shapes / color can pull that shape forward or backwards into the piece. This will allow you to emphasize specific areas of the painting...areas of more importance without having to worry about it clashing with the rest of the painting.

I appreciate the input Winfred. It's good to get some feedback.
