Martine Johanna has been one of my favorite illustrators for quite a while. Her work consists of fine lined drawings to hyper bizarre dream-like paintings with influences bleeding out of the images from high fashion to the occult.
Martine is quite aware of her artwork’s mystique and sexuality, she likens it’s qualities to her upbringing in a small village and her imagination’s journeys into fantasy. She studied fashion design in school and all these traits make their appearance within her work. But I don’t think it’s so much of a thought out process as Martine’s work has so much more of a natural feeling to it.
That natural sense of feeling lends itself to a natural growth, it continues to grow in a visual epic that’s just as engaging as any fairy tale.
