Mark Ryden's Holiday Spirit

Illustration // Tuesday, 24 Dec 2013

Mark Ryden, a past cover artist, is widely considered the "god-father of pop surrealism," and his ouevre is nothing if not diverse in subject matter. His work is inspired by objects, figures and myths that evoke mystery and nostalgia, therefore it stands to reason that Santa would make an appearance (along with Jesus, every now and then). To get you into the holiday spirit we've assembled Ryden's more wintry works, replete with imagined arctic animals, religious ephemera, and even an underwater St. Nick.
