Landscape Prints from Hasui Kawase

Illustration // Monday, 25 Aug 2014

Born in 1883, Japanese illustrator Hasui Kawase was one of the chief printmakers in the shin-hanga or "New Prints" movement of the early 20th century. Hasui's landscape works are stylistically unique, using bold colors and the importance of sun/moon light. His works most often feature tranquil and obscure settings in what was an urbanizing Japan at the time.
