On August 13th Lauren YS will open her first international solo show to cap off her summer artist residency at Rabbit Eye Movement Art Space in Vienna, the gallery owned by Austrian street artist NYCHOS. "Kraken" is a collection of completed series, experiments and sketches created during her summer in Vienna, titled after the legendary sea creature whose name also means "octopus" in german. The word “Kraken” finds its roots in krake, a Norwegian term meaning “an unhealthy creature” or “something twisted.” As such, the works in Kraken focus on visual explorations of mania and mental afflictions in her signature twisted illustrative style, lending significance to the octopus in both symbolism and etymology. The exhibition is designed to accompany the outdoor facade of the art space, which Lauren hand-painted during her residency.

REM will also release two limited edition screen prints and a t-shirt featuring designs from Lauren’s latest body of work. The exhibition is set to accompany the opening of REM’s brand new coffee shop, so if you're in Vienna, swing by anytime after 4PM to check out the artwork and grab a latte!

Opening: August 13th, 2014, 4PM
