Emma Webster's emotive, massive paintings explore a hypothetical dreamscape fraught with nostalgia, memory and anxiety. The Oakland-based artist has just completed a permanent mural near Classic Cars West where she will also host a solo show from August 2nd to September 21st. The mural is a dynamic, arresting example of Webster's aesthetic--fragmented, boldly colored sheaves of imagery that evoke childhood memory in its most vivid incarnation; a wide-eyed tiger looks on. By creating layered landscapes populated by abstract and remembered characters--Webster herself, her sister, her dog--the artist explores the distorted surface of these impressions. The opening will take place from 6-9pm on August 2nd at 411 26th Street, Oakland, CA.
