Christina Gomila is an artist and illustrator based in London. 'The Story of an Artist by Daniel Johnston is a song that narrates in a very simple but nonetheless poetical way what many unrecognized artists have to go through during their creative lives. Sometimes misunderstood, sometimes undervalued they hear from people discouraging messages like the ones portrayed on the song "Hey! Get a Job! Why do you only do that only? Why are you so odd? We don't really like what you do. We don't think anyone ever will. It's a problem that you have. And that problem's made you ill" but far from getting down it inspires them to produce new beautiful works like this one song.
The purpose of this project was to create a series of illustrations musically inspired.
I chose Daniel Johnston as my subject, more specifically the lyrics to his song "The Story of An Artist" because I think many people in the field can identify with them, not to mention that the artist himself is full of amazing stories and interesting stuff.
