Serving as a poetic counterpoint to an earlier piece, "Dark Horse," artist F. Scott Hess created "Pale Horse," a powerful image of a black woman on a white steed, bolting through the night during a violent thunderstorm. It is a moment frozen in time; the horse is caught wildly galloping in mid-air, flashes of lightning reflecting off its pristine coat as the woman lies peacefully across its back, the epitome of serenity and bliss.
