Aircrews in World War II decorated their planes with pictures of pinups and pretty girls, typically modeled after the "cheesecake" art of Gil Elvgren, Alberto Vargas and George Petty as a way to help the boys get through the war. It was an interesting practice with a deep, psychological impulse - attaching a talisman or a good-luck charm to the aircraft as a way of warding off evil, death, and bullets. We've compiled a series of aircraft nose art depicting classic pin-up girls.
