Brad Kunkle's Golden AgeErotica // Friday, 02 Nov 2012
In the paintings of Brad Kunkle, lovely nude women, often captured sleeping, are draped in waves of gilded foliage, slumbering beauties caught in surreal, incandescent dreamscapes. On his prominent use of gold, the artist explains: 'the surfaces of these oil paintings are embellished with genuine gold and silver leaf. These precious metals are used as symbolic elements as well as visual instruments to interact with the viewer's movements and environment. The leafed areas will shift with the intensity of light in a space, or as one simply walks across the room.' Kunkle lives and works in New York City.
