Tofer Chin, an artist we have written about on this site before, just created an interesting installation/public art project at Cultura Contemporânea in Rio de Janeiro, where he placed 14 black stalagmite sculptures in and around Lagoa dos Patos at Parque Lage. As Chin puts it, the "stalagmites are living and breathing souls, ghosts, spirits, voids, shadows."

Rojo-Nova
covered the event, and has a great video series of everyone's work.

Tofer's full explanation, "Fourteen Black, acrylic and wood, dimensions vary, Parque Lage, Rio de Janeiro, 2011.

14 Series1 Black Stalagmite sculptures will live and breathe through out the lush environment surrounding the Lagoa dos Patos at Parque Lage. Experience a sense of discovery amidst conversations between reflection and absorption of light. The Stalagmites are living and breathing souls, ghosts, spirits, voids, shadows.”
