Tim Burton Retrospective at LACMAJuxtapoz // Monday, 30 May 2011
Juxtapoz headed out to the opening gala at LACMA for TIm Burton's retrospective this weekend, and of course, it will be one of the more heavily trafficked shows of the year in Los Angeles and beyond. “The exhibition brings together over 700 drawings, paintings, photographs, moving-image works, storyboards, puppets, concept artworks, maquettes, costumes, and cinematic ephemera, including art from a number of unrealized and little-known personal projects."
There is also some great outdoor installation sculptures, "a topiary inspired by Edward Scissorhands (1990), and Balloon Boy, an enormous figure based on an amalgamation of characters that Burton first introduced in his 1997 book The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy and Other Stories."
We took a bunch of pictures, but we noticed that Brandon Shigeta, who does great work with Hypebeast, has better photos.
Burton's retrospective will be on display through October 31, 2011.
