This is what $42.6m will get you: "Ohhh ... Alright ..."

Juxtapoz // Friday, 12 Nov 2010

Well $38 million, plus some auction fees that bumps that number up to $42.6 million, will get you a Roy Lichtenstein 1964 classic, “Ohhh … Alright …" on the market these days. Wednesday night, Christie's in New York held auctions of contemporary and post-war works, with Lichtenstein hitting a record high for one of his works.

Christie's reported that American buyers led the way at the Wednesday session, with this great line from a Christie's specialist: "The art market has in fact come back with real strength," said Amy Cappellazzo, Christie's co-head of contemporary and post-war art. There was quite a lot of pent-up demand."

Pent-up demand. Could be the line of the day, and its early.
