The Firm: Photos of UK Organized Crime by Jocelyn Bain Hogg

Juxtapoz // Thursday, 29 Dec 2011
Access is a very important thing for a documentary photographer, and some of the great ones we cover, from KC Ortiz, Boogie, and Mikhael Subotzky, their access makes for an entry into some of the most incredible and private worlds we can imagine. UK-based photographer, Jocelyn Bain Hogg, has an interesting series she has been working on for years, The Firm, a documentary of organized crime throughout the UK and beyond. The series covers gangsters from South London all the way to exiled spots in the Canary Islands.

As Bain-Hogg says of her intense series, “These are not the faces of criminals who hide behind the facade of respectability or the corruption of political influence. They are, in fact, the real thing, men who hold their head up when challenged, and who seek no false redemption in the face of public vilification.”

The work is currently on display at London’s Foto 8 Gallery through January 14, 2012. (via Flavorwire)
