The Art of Mazzarella ThomasJuxtapoz // Tuesday, 23 Aug 2011
Mazzarella Thomas' work reminds us a bit of Chris Johanson, with its own twist. Thomas' paintings use a very voyeuristic perspective in which we seem to be peeking into the lives of his little characters. We observe business proceedings, artists tediously ruminating over paintings, odd urban landscapes, bedroom push-ups, and many other snap shots of another world that inspire some kind of cohesive narrative.
It's not entirely clear what's going on in each painting, but as you look more, you seem to create your own interpretation. It's also possible we're looking too hard, as people do with art sometimes. Regardless, they are fun to look at.
