Sonic Youth's Kim Gordon Enters fashion with 'Carte Blanche'

Juxtapoz // Tuesday, 14 Sep 2010

The line debuted in New York in Fashion’s Night Out this weekend. Gordon’s capsule collection from Italian luxury label Sportmax “is an expression of French origin, which literally means ‘blank paper.’” The Sportmax Carte Blanche program gives the selected artist a blank canvas to create a sketch that will be produced on limited edition ready to wear items. “They have a longstanding fashion reputation,” Gordon says. “They’re fabrics are beautiful and they make great coats.”

Gordon put together three limited-edition pieces—a dress ($275), tunic ($225) and t-shirt ($135)—inspired by abstract watercolors, and finished in shades of gray, blue and black. Her favorite item is reported to be the tunic, thanks to its “leafy, feather feel,” although, Gordon says, “I can’t really afford their stuff.” Hard to believe, but okay.

The collection will be sold through all the Sportmax Boutiques and in select Max Mara Boutiques worldwide.
