We are excited for directors Faythe Levine and Sam Macon's new documentary Sign Painters. Featuring the stories of over two dozen dedicated painters, the film exhibits their time-honored methods and appreciation for quality and craftsmanship. The filmmakers comment that the artists have seen their trade "overrun by the techno-fueled promise of quicker and cheaper. The resulting proliferation of computer-designed, die-cut vinyl lettering and inkjet printers has ushered a creeping sameness into our landscape. Fortunately, there is a growing trend to seek out traditional sign painters and a renaissance in the trade."

The film follows a book released last year and profiles young and old sign painters, from the new vanguard working solo to collaborative shops such as San Francisco's New Bohemia Signs and New York's Colossal Media's Sky High Murals.

Two screenings have been announced so far. One at the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian American Art Museum on March 30th and one at the Rio Theatre in Vancouver on June 7th and 8th. Follow their twitter for updates!
